Development Accountant - Residential Real Estate

We are seeking an experienced Development Accountant to join our team, playing a key role in financial reporting and operations for our corporate and real estate portfolios. This position offers a competitive salary of up to $125k plus bonus and will lead the month-end close process, ensure accurate accounting practices, and collaborate across various internal teams, including Acquisitions, Asset Management, and Legal.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the financial close and reporting processes for corporate and assigned portfolios
  • Maintain the general ledger and perform reconciliations across key accounts (cash, AP, AR, loans)
  • Prepare financial statements, reports, and variance analysis
  • Process intercompany transactions and manage audits for joint venture portfolios
  • Coordinate with Accounts Payable for invoice processing, capital calls, and compliance tasks
  • Reconcile bank statements and compile weekly cash reports
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting

Required Experience:

  • 4-7 years of accounting experience
  • 1-3 years of experience within residential real estate, residential portfolio, or residential asset management
  • Proven experience in financial reporting, account reconciliations, and the month-end close process
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

Nice-to-Have Experience:

  • Background in land development or build-to-rent real estate environments
  • Exposure to joint ventures or investor reporting

Required Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP)
  • Proficiency in accounting software (Sage, TimberScan)

Preferred Skills:

  • Analytical thinking and data synthesis
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
