Assistant Property Controller

While the title is an Assistant Controller, the new hire will start out as an individual contributor and will then eventually start managing the work of some of the Property Accounting team.
Key Details
- Work Arrangement: Hybrid with onsite in Cambridge Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday; remote Monday and Friday set-up.
- Compensation: $150,000-$160,000 base salary
- Bonus: Target bonus potential of approx $10,000-$20,000 annually

Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day accounting and finance-related activities for an outsourced property management function
- Review lease terms and related activity in property accounting systems and escalate issues as needed
- Maintain the integrity of real estate subledgers and support accurate data flow into reporting systems
- Partner with accounting and asset management teams to enhance processes and reporting deliverables
- Identify accounting gaps, risks, and policy improvement opportunities
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end portfolio review processes
- Partner with external auditors for annual and standalone audit activity
- Support joint venture administration and related accounting processes
- Help manage treasury activity and portfolio cash position
- Track debt terms, key dates, and covenant-related compliance requirements
- Support regulatory and tax-related compliance activity
- Facilitate transitions between development-stage and operating properties
- Research accounting issues and assist with special projects and initiatives as needed
Required Qualifications
- At least 6 years of real estate accounting experience
- Demonstrated experience with process improvements, systems enhancements, change management, or organizational improvements
- Experience at the Accounting Manager or Assistant Controller level, or closely related experience
- Strong understanding of property accounting and financial reporting
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Strongly Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Yardi and/or RealPage
- CPA
- Experience with joint ventures
- Experience across multiple asset classes such as commercial, lab, retail, and/or residential real estate
- Experience with leasehold and fee simple accounting
